Another day another Disney remake, as the circle of life returns in Jon Favreau’s revisit to the 1994 Disney favourite.

Whilst not strictly speaking live action, the magic lies in the photorealism of the animals (an incredible job by the effects team) and of course the all star cast; Donald Glover stars as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is perfect as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the sinister Scar, John Oliver as the somewhat annoyingly fussy Zazu and of course the magnificent kingly James Earl Jones returns as Mufasa.

However it’s the lovable duo Timon and Pumba who steal the show and hearts of the audience. Played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, the meerkat and warthog tag-team bring a lot of comedy and energy to the movie.

Aside from the stunning visuals and cast, we’re treated to many of the familiar songs and one or two new ones; not at all disappointing.

Lion King, like its predecessor is an instant success and a beautifully crafted movie to watch time and again with your own cubs. What the remake has gained visually, it seems to have lost in heart slightly; compared to the original.
